PCAP Touch for Smarter Kitchen Appliance

With the improvement of smart home technology, high-end kitchen appliances are incorporating more and more touch functions. The interface is shifting from the simple membrane on/off controls to LCDs plus PCAP touch panels to enhance the user's touch experience. The customer in this case, is a well-known Swiss kitchen appliance group with long historical standing. They had been searching for a suitable PCAP solution for their product and failed. They contact AMT through our distributors in Europe and seek advice from us.

CHALLENGE

The main challenges in touch panel induction cookers are the rapid temperature change and noise interferences. The PCAP touch panels the customer originally designed has false touch problems during use. Even worse, the false signal multiplies as the temperature increases. On the other hand, the design feature is so the entire surface of the cooktop can be used instead of the predefined positions. To make this happen, they need to install many electromagnetic components under the glass of the induction cooker. These components generate overlapping electric fields. On the other hand, the materials of the cookware, different electric field are produced during cooking. This creates a highly complex interference to the touch panel.

SOLUTION

AMT engineers adopted a unique System Reference technology to resolve the issue of temperature changes. This feature can detect and analyze changes in ambient temperature; when temperature and humidity change too quickly, improved touch performance would be executed so erroneous touch signals won't occur. Solve the problem that false touch signals are easily generated when the temperature changes rapidly. Regarding noise immunity, AMT provided a comprehensive installation guide detailing how to strengthen the electric shielding around the device to minimize the noise interference created. Both measures are necessary for the AMT PCAP touch panel to function and operate properly.

OUTCOME

AMT worked closely with the client throughout the life cycle of the product. Our customer estimate that users may place high-temperature cookware directly on the touch display. So and has participated in thousands of hours of product testing to make sure our touch module can withstand high-temperature cookware on the touch LCD monitor for several minutes. In the end, AMT successfully passed the test to meet customers' needs. This story showcases AMT’s persistence in developing, testing, and manufacturing products and how we always provide professional and precise advice to our customers.
