PCAP Touch Solutions to Rugged Display

The end customer, in this case, is a renowned German company with a history of 140 years. The company is a global leader in explosion-proof products, and its primary markets are petroleum, chemical, shipbuilding, etc. The product described here needs to be explosion-proof, so the demand for durability and reliability is crucial. Moreover, the product must be able to withstand harsh weather. Upon receiving the case, AMT collaborated with our agency in Germany and went through a thorough verification and discussion process. Finally, we successfully delivered Projected Capacitive (PCAP) touch screen solutions that meet customer needs!

CHALLENGE

The main challenges in touch panel induction cookers are the rapid temperature change and noise interferences. The PCAP touch panels the customer originally designed has false touch problems during use. Even worse, the false signal multiplies as the temperature increases. On the other hand, the design feature is so the entire surface of the cooktop can be used instead of the predefined positions. To make this happen, they need to install many electromagnetic components under the glass of the induction cooker. These components generate overlapping electric fields. On the other hand, the materials of the cookware, different electric field are produced during cooking. This creates a highly complex interference to the touch panel.

SOLUTION

The customer's product needs to meet the ATEX explosion-proof certification standard. After thoroughly examining the case with our distributor in Germany, AMT provided PCAP with OCA-Film-Film-Film (AFFF). Our German distributor then bound 10mm thick glass locally. Our collaboration successfully manufactured a product that meets the requirements of the customer.

On the other hand, this product must be operated under the sun. Prolonged UV rays exposure can cause the touch panel to yellow, haze, bubble, or crack. We added UV resistant design to PCAP touch panel to protect the touch panel from UV rays. The product can pass ASTM G154 Cycle 1 - 1,000 hours and MIL-STD-810H Pro 1 - 1,000 hours test.

AMT has patented software and hardware innovation technology for touch controllers. We can customize the firmware so that customers' products can operate normally from -40 °C to +65 °C. In some cases, the devices are installed in an environment where the temperature difference can reach up to 30°C, causing the touch to malfunction. AMT engineers carefully examined the case and incorporated Finger Recognition technology in the controller firmware so that the controller could correctly identify the finger touch, and successfully solved this issue for the customer.

OUTCOME

AMT is experienced in innovating and manufacturing durable and reliable PCAP touch panels. This successful case further demonstrated our flexibility in designing touch controllers to meet customer needs. This customer later launched another new product series (including 12.1”, 15.6” and 21.5”) and also chose to adopt AMT PCAP touch solutions. This move proves AMT’s products and services are well received! Contact AMT and let us be your long-term partner!
